| About Our Club |
|
Rotaract is a sub-organization of Rotary International specifically meant for people aged 18-30. It comes from the phrase: Rotary in Action: Our members come from different backgrounds, different careers, different educations, and different geographic locations. Our particular club was orginally chartered by the Fargo-Moorhead AM Rotary Club as a means to get young adults more active and involved in community projects. We are still a very young club, but look forward to growing our numbers over the coming years. Many people ask what Rotaract is. In the purest sense, Rotaract is a service organization. We help others in our community, in our region and around the world. Rotacters work with other Rotary clubs in the Fargo-Moorhead area on projects such as building a baseball field for disabled youth, assisting with homework programs at school and doing things as simple as cleaning up a roadside. But, Rotaract is more than just helping others. Rotaract provides a strong sense of fellowship and community for its members. Our club members often socialize outside of Rotaract and many develop life-long friendships as a result. It's also a great way to network and meet people in your own community who you may never have otherwise met. In 2009, our Rotaract chapter launched a mentorship program. This program pairs Rotaractors with Rotarians who have a career or background similar to what the Rotaractor wishes to achieve. This one-on-one interactions often provide both sides with an experience that can't be replaced by traditional education or internships opportunities. The participants in this year's program have found the experience to be "great" and "very worthwhile" as they have had the chance to see their potential career from the inside. Rotary and Rotaract have a rich tradition of being the service organization of choice for many successful leaders in a variety of fields. Rotary's members read like a who's who of American history. From former Presidents (Gerald Ford and Warren Harding) to physicians such as the founder of the Mayo Clinic Dr. Charles Mayo and aviation pioneer Orville Wright, many great people started to make their difference in the world through Rotary International.
Our club generally meets the second and fourth Thursday every month at 6pm. Our location changes, but we try to post it on our website about a week before the meeting. We encourage any prospective member to attend one of our meetings. Rotaract meetings are a great way to meet new people and network, feel connected to your community, and just have fun. At least once per month, we'll have a local professional come and speak to our group about various topics. Overall, our meetings are as diverse as our members! |
